Privacy Policy

This policy covers both this website (knuthake.de) and the Studio Malibu macOS apps whose product pages live here (SyncScript Pro, MalibuSync, Malibu Meter, MalibuMesh, and others). Data controller for both: Knut Hake, Stargarder Str. 55a, 10437 Berlin, Germany — knuthake@me.com.

Have feedback about an app? Please use the in-app Feedback button in the app itself — that's the only channel we actively monitor and respond to. Feedback sent by email is not tracked and will not receive a reply.

1. This website

knuthake.de is a static Next.js site, hosted on Vercel. It does not use cookies, analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising scripts. Content (filmography entries) is managed through Sanity, a headless CMS — this only affects editorial content, not visitor data. Standard server/hosting logs (IP address, timestamp, requested page) may be recorded temporarily by Vercel for security and operational purposes, as is standard for any web server. The apps' backend (license checks, feedback, waitlist signups — see below) runs on our own server, hosted by Hetzner.

If you use the contact options on the homepage (email or phone), the data you provide is only used to respond to your inquiry.

2. The Studio Malibu apps

Each app product page links to a downloadable macOS application. Once installed, the apps themselves — not this website — may process the following data:

License & trial verification

Apps with a trial period send a device identifier and, where you provide one, your email address to our license server (api.malibureview.app) to verify trial status and enable renewal contact. This email is never used for marketing and is not shared with third parties.

In-app feedback

If you use an app's built-in Feedback function, the text you write — plus, if you choose to attach one, a screenshot — is sent to our shared feedback system (also hosted on api.malibureview.app) together with your local macOS username, the app version, and OS version, so we can diagnose the report. This is the only feedback channel we monitor — see the note above.

Local processing

Where an app description states that processing happens locally (e.g. transcription, audio analysis, file matching), your media files and their content are not uploaded anywhere — only the license check and, if you actively submit it, feedback data leave your Mac.

Purchases

Paid apps are sold through Polar (Polar Software Inc.), acting as merchant of record. Polar processes your email, billing details, and payment information to complete the purchase and issue your license key — we never see or store your payment details ourselves. See Polar's own privacy policy for how they handle checkout data.

Notify-me signups

If you enter your email to be notified when a not-yet-released app launches, that email and the app name are stored on our server until we send the notification, then deleted.

MalibuReview

MalibuReview is a live review tool for film production teams. Beyond the license/feedback data above, it processes: uploaded video files and thumbnails, timeline markers and comments (including the name you enter for yourself), email addresses of people you invite to a project, and live-streaming session metadata (via LiveKit Cloud, a real-time video infrastructure provider) while a review session is active. This data is only visible to people you explicitly invite to your project.

3. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you (e.g. a trial email address), and to object to its processing. Contact knuthake@me.com for any such request. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
